Geekvape box mod, which batteries and coils each model needs

A Geekvape box mod rarely leaves its packaging ready to use with nothing else. Depending on the model, the batteries are missing, the spare coil belongs to a series the next model does not take, and the bundled tank comes in two capacities. So the question “what do I need to buy for my mod?” has no single answer, and it changes from one device to the next, even inside the Aegis family.

Geekvape box mod, what to buy alongside the device

Three consumables sit next to every Geekvape box mod, the power source, the coils and the tank glass. The five newest models in the catalogue break down as follows, based on the listings in the manufacturer’s official store.

ModelPowerBatteries in the boxCoils in the kitTank in the kit

Two columns of that table prevent most wrong orders. Four models out of five run on Z series coils, and only the Mini 5 needs the B series. At least three of the five also ship without the batteries they depend on.

Batteries, the first consumable of a Geekvape box mod

On a Geekvape box mod, the power source decides what to buy before the very first puff. The manufacturer offers three set-ups, two cells, a single cell or a built-in battery. A cell here means a removable cylindrical battery that you take out to charge or replace.

Two 18650 cells for the Legend 5 and the T200

The Aegis Legend 5 runs on two external 18650 cells, which its listing clearly marks as not included. Its maker quotes 7.4 V for the pair, an output of 5 to 200 W and a maximum output current of 45 A.

The T200, the mod with a 2.4 inch touch screen, also relies on two 18650 cells, and its contents list mentions no battery. For both mods, cells are therefore bought in pairs, in the 18650 size and nothing else.

One cell for the Solo 5, in the size you choose

The Aegis Solo 5 takes one 18650 or one 21700 cell, again not supplied. The box does include an 18650 to 21700 adapter, and the listing gives an output of 5 to 100 W with a maximum current of 30 A.

That flexibility means choosing the cell size before you order, since the adapter is there to seat the smaller of the two formats.

A built-in battery for the Mini 5 and one Solo 3 edition

The Aegis Mini 5 carries a 3200 mAh battery and charges over USB-C, at 5 V and 2 A or 5 V and 3 A. The manufacturer’s site claims an 80% charge in about 40 minutes at 5 V and 3 A. There is no cell to buy.

The Solo 3 muddies the picture, because two editions share the same name, one with a built-in 3000 mAh battery and one with an external 18650 cell that is not supplied. The edition shown on the box or the listing settles what you need.

Z or B coils, two families that do not swap

A mod does not pick its coil, the tank does. Recent Geekvape box mod kits split between two coil families, and mixing them up is the easiest mistake to make when reordering.

The Z series, for the Legend 5, Solo 5, Solo 3 and T200

The Z series listing separates classic versions from a Boost version that only comes in XM references, at 0.15 ohm for 70 to 85 W, 0.2 ohm for 70 to 80 W and 0.4 ohm for 50 to 60 W. Geekvape says it is designed for the Z Subohm Tank, Z Subohm Tank 2021 and Z Subohm Tank 5, along with the Legend 5, Legend 3 and Solo 3 kits.

For a compatible Geekvape coil on these kits, the letter Z in the reference is what matters. The T200 kit, for instance, pairs a 0.15 ohm Z coil rated for 70 to 85 W with a 0.4 ohm Z coil.

The B series, for the Mini 5 and its Z Nano 3

The Mini 5 switches family. Its listing describes a Z Nano 3 that takes the B series, supplied with a B0.2 rated for 50 to 58 W and a B0.4 for 25 to 35 W, both in the Boost version. The Z series is not mentioned for it.

The B series is not tied to the mod either. Its listing also links it to the H45 cartridge of the Aegis Hero 2 and Hero 5 pod kits, to the Aegis Boost 2 and Boost 3 pods, to the Aegis Force pod and to the Zeus Nano 2. One pack of five B coils can therefore serve a Mini 5 and an Aegis pod kit. The same platform logic applies to pod refills, as our guide to Geekvape pods explains.

Tank capacity, the 2 ml rule in the UK

The third consumable is the tank glass, which a single drop can crack. Listings usually quote a standard capacity and a TPD capacity for the same tank, TPD standing for the European Tobacco Products Directive.

In the UK, a refillable tank is limited to 2 ml and nicotine e-liquid to 20 mg/ml, sold in bottles of no more than 10 ml. The Z Sub-ohm 2021 of the Solo 3, the spare glass of the Legend 5 kit, the Z Nano 3 of the Mini 5 and the T200 atomiser all list a 2 ml TPD version, and that is the one to look for.

A replacement glass should be chosen in that same 2 ml version.

Reading a listing before you order consumables

Shop listings often blur the line between mod only, full kit and edition. Four checks save a wasted purchase.

First check, spot whether the listing says “mod only” or “kit”. Geekvape sells the Legend 5, the Solo 5 and the Mini 5 both ways, and only the kit includes a tank and its coils.

Second check, read the battery size in the specifications rather than in the title, especially for a Solo 3.

Third check, note the coil series letter, Z or B, and whether the reference says Boost or XM. Signs of a worn coil are covered in our guide on when to change your vape coil.

Last check, match the glass or tank capacity to the 2 ml TPD version.

FAQ

These questions come up in searches around the brand’s mods, including older models. The answers rely on the manufacturer’s own pages.

Which battery does the Aegis Max take?

The manufacturer’s FAQ on the Max100, also sold as the Aegis Max 2, names an 18650 or a 21700 cell. It does not say whether the cell is supplied, so check the kit listing before buying.

Which coil fits the Aegis Legend 2?

The Legend 2, sold as the L200, runs on the Z series. Its page lists the Z0.15, Z0.2, Z0.25 DC and Z0.4, and its kit ships with a 0.2 ohm coil rated for 70 to 80 W and a 0.25 ohm coil for 45 to 57 W.

Which tank suits an Aegis Solo?

For the Solo 5, the manufacturer’s page recommends the Z Subohm Tank 5, the one in its kit. The Solo 3 ships with the Z Sub-ohm 2021, and in both cases the 2 ml edition is the one for the UK market.

How do you charge an Aegis Legend 2?

Through its USB-C port, which the L200 listing mentions. The listing gives neither the charging current nor the charging time, so the manual is the place to look.

How do you set up an Aegis box mod?

Set the power within the range printed for the fitted coil, for example 70 to 85 W for a Z0.15 XM. The T200 moves in 1 W steps and offers six modes, Power, TC-SS, TC-TCR, VPC, Smart and Bypass, for coils from 0.1 to 2 ohms.

Geekvape box mod, the essentials before reordering

The brand’s recent mods fall into three power set-ups, two 18650 cells, one cell of your choice or a built-in battery. On the coil side, the Z series covers four models out of five, while the B series stays with the Mini 5 among these mods.

Add the tank glass, bought in its 2 ml version, and a Geekvape box mod can be kitted out without a wrong order. The same three checks work for most box mods on the market, as our guide to vape pod compatibility shows for pod kits.
